Post school pathways look set to change in Western Australia from next year, according to the ABC.
The WA Department of Education is changing its policy around school completion, which currently offers students only two choices - sit ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank) subjects and attempt to enter university, or complete VET (Vocational Education and Training) subjects, with a view to acquiring a trade, apprenticeship or traineeship. From 2020, Year 11 and 12 students will be given a third option of a 'general pathway'. While this will not enable direct admission to university, it will leave the option open for alternative entrance at a later date.
